🎨 What We’ll Explore Together
This course is all about building confidence while creating something beautifully surreal.
We’ll cover:
• How to plan a painting properly – composition, colour palettes, and how to combine multiple images into one cohesive idea (without it feeling overwhelming).
• Layering made simple – what goes down first, what comes next, and why.
• Brushwork skills & techniques – learning control, texture, and flow.
• Value mapping – understanding where your lights and darks belong (and when to leave space).
• Refining your focal point so your piece truly stands out.
• Finishing touches – including adding D-rings and wire so your artwork is ready to hang.
You’ll be supported step-by-step with demonstrations and individual guidance throughout.
🖼 By the End of the Course You’ll Take Home:
• 1–2 completed surreal miniature masterpieces
(7cm x 8cm or 20cm x 20cm)
• A collection of studies and exercises to support your continued growth.

A little about your instructor:
Hi, I’m Cassie (often affectionately referred to as teach by my lovely students)
I’ve studied art for as long as I can remember, learning the rules, techniques, and foundations that every artist needs. But over time I realised that knowledge alone wasn’t enough—I needed to reconnect with why I was creating in the first place. That journey led me to experiment, let go of perfection, and rediscover my own artistic voice.
For over 10 years, I’ve been painting surrealistic portraits, and for the past 5+ years I’ve had the joy of teaching others. When I teach, I bring both sides of my experience—the technical skills I’ve studied and the freedom that comes from creating in your own way. My greatest passion is helping others not only learn how to paint and draw but also uncover their unique style and stay true to it. For me, art isn’t just about producing a portrait—it’s about expressing yourself, enjoying the process, and creating something that feels authentically yours.
What to bring:
Just bring yourself! - All materials are supplied
Optional - I do recommend bringing a size A4-A3 visual journal to track the progress of your classes. You can also bring your favourite supplies if you wish - paintbrushes, pencils, paints etc. but this is all supplied.
